Incident 15/16
Yesterday (March 17th) Howth Coast Guard were tasked along with Coast Guard Helicopter Rescue 116, Howth RNLI, Dublin Fire Brigade and Gardai to a faller at Whitewater Brook near the Baily Lighthouse.
The team responded and a casualty was transferred to Howth ILB and brought back to Howth Harbour. An ambulance then transferred the patient to Beaumont hospital. Incident 15/16 Today Gardai requested assistance with the recovery of a body in the Sutton Area. Howth Coast Guard and Howth RNLI were tasked. The body was recovered by CG and RNLI personnel to the lifeboat and brought back to Howth Harbour. Rest in Peace.
Incident 13/16 At 11.30pm last night the Irish Coast Guard were contacted by Gardai for assistance in Dublin Port where Gardai were concerned for a missing person. CG Helicopter Rescue 116, Howth CG unit and Dun Laoghaire RNLI were tasked. Along with Gardai and Dublin Port all units conducted an extensive search of the area.
With nothing to report the unit was stood down at 3am and returned to base. Gardai are continuing to investigate. Incident 12/16 On Saturday February 13th a unit was dispatched to assist persons from the East Pier in Howth affected by waves breaking on the pier. Three people unable to return safely were assisted off the pier and members of the public intending to walk the pier were given safety advice.
Incident 11/16 On Friday evening a boat was reported to be taking on water close to Malahide Marina. Members of the Irish Coast Guard unit from Howth, Howth RNLI inshore lifeboat and a unit from Dublin Fire Brigade attended the scene. The boat was brought to a safe point and a decision made to return at first light to pump out the water. Howth RNLI had confirmed nobody was on board.
5 members of the Howth Coast Guard unit returned on Saturday morning at first light with pumping equipment but it wasn’t required. Incident 10/16 The Irish Coast Guard operations centre shortly before 3am this morning received a call from a female on Howth Head who had fallen on the cliff path.
The Irish Coast Guard team and Gardai from Howth were tasked to assist. A search team was deployed and located the female on a path leading to the summit car park, the casualty was medically assessed and then transferred by a stretcher party back to the car park. She was then transferred to a waiting ambulance. The team was stood down at 4am and returned to base. Incident 09/16 The Irish Coast Guard operations centre co-ordinated two separate incidents yesterday morning (Wed 3rd Feb) involving fishing trawlers.
The first one had damaged its prop and the second was involved in a collision at sea. A sight not seen too often for an incident had both the RNLI All Weather from Howth and Dun Laooghaire in Howth Harbour involved in the recovery. A unit from the Irish Coast Guard team from Howth were also tasked to assist on shore. Incident 07/16, 08/16 Howth Coast Guard were tasked at 13.11 on Saturday to a report of personal belongings left on the cliff near Balscadden. Along with the Coast Guard helicopter Rescue 116 and both Howth Lifeboats a search was carried out along the cliffs at this location. After 30 minutes it was confirmed it was a false alarm when Gardai contacted the person concerned.
Incident 06/16 The Howth CG unit was tasked Friday at 15.31 to a 112 call of a faller on the cliff path at Howth. The team assembled and went to the scene near Casana rock. After a brief search the unit found the casualty who had fallen 5 metres into gorse undergrowth. Medicial assistance was given by the Coast Guard unit EMT and helicopter paramedic. The casualty was placed on a spinal board and stretcher and then winched into the helicopter and flown to Tallaght hospital. Incident 05/16 On Saturday last at 15.01 Howth CG were tasked to prepare the LZ at Beaumont Hospital for an incoming spinal casualty on CG helicopter Rescue 116 en route from the Wicklow mountains. The team were stood down at 15.10 when the helicopter was routed to the LZ at Kilmainham hospital.
Incident 04/16 This morning at 8.30am the Irish Coast Guard team at Howth were tasked by the Irish Coast Guard emergency operations centre to reports of a car in the water at Baldoyle.
The car had left the Coast Road but had not entered the water. Gardai investigating. Incident 16/03 At midday today the Irish Coast Guard team in Howth were alerted by the Coast Guard operations centre to a dog trapped on sea cliffs at Balscaden on Howth Head. The dog, Hooch a 12 year old boxer, had fallen 15 meters into the water and then scrambled back up rocks where he was stuck on a ledge. His barks had been heard by walkers and paddle boarders who alerted the Coast Guard. A Coast Guard Cliff Rescue team from the Howth station were training nearby and were tasked. Paddle boarders on the water assisted the Coast Guard team with the location. Due to the location it was safer to extract to the top than lower Hooch to a boat. A rescue climber was lowered and the unit's animal rescue bag was deployed to bring the canine back to safety. The Coast Guard team then hauled the rescue climber and the dog back to safety. Hooch was slightly shaken by the ordeal but otherwise in good spirits. We encourage dog owners not to attempt dangerous rescues but instead to call the Coast Guard at 112/999. Incident 02/16 On Saturday afternoon a full team call out was activated by the Coast Guard operations centre to bring us our first call out of the year.
A female had sustained a leg injury on the cliff path close to Red Rock. The unit quickly located the casualty who had minor injuries but was unable to walk. A paramedic from the team attended to the casualty while the stretcher party transported her back to the main road where she was met by family members. 11.30am Concern for person in difficulty on east pier as waves were breaking at high tide. Nothing to report, watch kept on pier with advice issued to the public until darkness. 17.00 A unit was tasked this afternoon to an EPIRB activation on a vessel. Area of interest searched, investigation moved search to another territory. Details on EPIRB below for those interested. Emergency Positioning Indicating Radio Beacon (EPIRB). When an EPIRB is activated, the EPIRB transmits a radio signal with user registration data (including the beacon's unique ID eg.15 character UIN or HEX ID) and positioning information to a network of satellites that assist the Coast Guard in conducting an emergency rescue. Incidents 79/15 and 80/15 Howth CG along with Howth RNLI were tasked on last Friday evening at 17.53 at the request of Gardai to reports of a missing person who may have been seen in the Howth area that morning. An intensive search of the harbour area was carried out until 21.30 by 23 CG volunteers. At first light both on Saturday and Sunday mornings the search resumed including the Howth CG boat and crew using a side scan sonar. Nothing was found and the Gardai continued their investigation.
The incident was resolved today, Monday, when the person was found safe elsewhere. Incident 78/15 Howth Coast Guard's underwater sonar response unit were tasked this morning at 08.00 to assist Gardai in Navan with the search for a missing person who was seen entering the Boyne yesterday. The unit covered the Boyne river in Navan town with the assistance of Meath Civil Defence. They were stood down at 16.00 with nothing found. Gardai are continuing their inquiries.
Incident 77/15 At 05.30 Wednesday morning Howth Coast Guard were tasked to assist Gardai in the search for a missing person in the Howth area.
As the unit were assembling at the station Dublin CG NMOC stood the team down as the person had been located. Incident 76/15 On Friday afternoon last the team along with Ccoast Guard Rescue Helicopter 116 and Howth RNLI were tasked to a kite surfer reported to be in difficulty off the East Pier in Howth. An extensive search was carried out and nothing located. The search is stood down for now with the Coast Guard continuing to investigate the callout.
Incident 75/15 Early this morning, Thursday, unit attended helicopter transfer by Coast Guard Rescue 118 from Sligo. Smoke Flare deployed and casualty transferred to ambulance. NAS Ambulance and Dublin fire brigade also in attendance.
Wednesday 4th November unit tasked along with Dun Laoghaire Rnli to person in the water off Bull Wall in Dollymount. HCG unit were on scene within 5 minutes and determined it was a false alarm with good intent. Incidents 73/15 and 74/15 Howth Coast Guard were tasked last Friday 23rd October to assist Gardai with a search on Dollymount beach to see if a person needed assistance. The beach and golf course were searched over a two hour operation but with nothing to report the search was stood down. The initial report came from a member of the public who though a person may need assistance. Call with good intention.
Incident 72/15 Howth CG were tasked today at 11.47 to Beaumont hospital to prepare the landing site for CG Helicopter 116 which was at an incident on Kiliney beach and was required to transfer a patient to the hospital quickly. Dun Laoghaire Coast Guard unit and the HSE were on scene at Kiliney and the helicopter landed on the beach to retrieve the casualty and HSE advanced paramedic for a quick loading.
Howth CG went to Beaumont along with the Gardai, Dublin Fire Brigade and the HSE. R116 landed and the unit assisted transferring the casualty to the waiting HSE ambulance. The unit were stood down at 13.10 after returning to the station. Incident 71/15 Yesterday at 15.40 Howth CG were tasked to Beaumont hospital to prepare the landing site for an incoming medical emergency. Rescue 115 was en route with a patient from an accident site in Roscommon. Dublin fire brigade, Gardai and the HSE were also en route to assist. After the helicopter landed the patient was transferred via ambulance to Beaumont hospital and the unit was stood down. On the morning of Thursday 8th Oct. the team were tasked to assist Gardai in the removal of a body from a trawler in Howth harbour. RIP
Incidents 69/15 and 70/15 The Irish Coast Guard Cliff Rescue unit in Howth attended two cliff rescue calls this afternoon within 1 hour of each other on Howth Head.
The first call was for the team was at 15.45 where a man going shore fishing slipped ten metres while descending to rocks at Balscadden. The Coast Guard team arrived quickly and an EMT from the team administered critical medical care until the arrival of the paramedic from the Coast Guard helicopter. The fisherman's colleague was taken by the Howth Rnli lifeboat to Howth Harbour. The casualty who had serious head injuries was winched aboard the Coast Guard helicopter Rescue 116 and taken to Beaumont. Another crew from Howth Coast Guard along with the assistance of local Gardai secured the landing site and assisted with the transfer of the casualty to a waiting ambulance. While some of the crew were assisting with the transfer above at 17.00 a call came in of a tourist trapped 25 meters up a 40 metre cliff at Whitewater brook near the Baily lighthouse. The team in Howth were closing down from the previous call at the station and were dispatched directly to the scene by the Coast Guard's National Maritime Operations Centre. A rope cliff rescue was quickly set up and a rescue climber got to the casualty who was a tourist that had got confused on returning from the beach below and found himself unable to ascend or descend from a steep cliff face. He was secured to the rope system and brought to safety by the team, no further medical care was required. Incident 67.15 and 68.15 Howth Coast Guard were tasked yesterday at 15.00 by the CG operations centre to prepare a landing site for CG Rescue 118, 118 was inbound with a medical transfer for Beaumont hospital from Sligo General due in at 16.00. Helicopter arrived in 16.30 and departed back for Sligo at 17.30. A team of 5 personnel attended from Howth CG, cleared the site and deployed smoke flares in what was heavy rain with reducing visibility. The team closed down at 18.30. DFB, HSE and Gardai also attended.
Incident 66.15 At 7.30am this morning (16/9/15) Dublin Fire Brigade received reports of smoke coming from a Fishing Trawler engine room at the end of the West Pier in Howth Harbour. The Irish Coast Guard National Maritime Operations Centre (NMOC) was alerted by the Fire Brigade, a unit from Howth Coast Guard and the Howth RNLI inshore lifeboat were tasked to monitor potential pollution and to support if needed. Units of the Fire Service from Kilbarrack and North Strand attended the scene and extinguished a fire in the engine room. @DubFireBrigade @HowthRnli |
