Howth Coast Guard welcomed a new 6.8mt Delta RiB in April 2014 to it's on station resources. The craft will be used as an aid to the unit, safety patrol vessel and 2nd launch response rescue craft after 1st response Howth RNLI vessels. The Delta was on station on a first response CG station on the West coast and after having reached 10 years on service the boat was retired from first response duties and then fully reconditioned. The vessel has a full electronic suite onboard including twin screen Garmin GPS plotter, AIS, twin vhf marine radios, radar and sonar. The craft also has new shockseats for all the crew and twin 100hp Yamaha 4 stroke engines.

Coxswains & Crew are issued with:

  • Dry Suit with Sewn in Boots
  • Fleece Full-body Suit ‘Wooly Bear’
  • Gecko Helmet & Visor
  • Full Weight Life Jacket
  • Neoprene Gloves
  • VHF Waterproof Case


All Coxswains have the Yachtmaster Coastal Certificate along with theISA Advanced Powerboat Certificate.

Crew have the ISA National Powerboat Certificate.

All going to sea must have their First aid, VHF radio cert, STCW 95 Sea survival capsize course, which run by the Naval service in the maritime college, and all must undergo a Coast Guard assessment.
