April 14th. Assistance to Gardai. Initial Response Team Tasked. Incident 23/15.

 

April 17th. CG Community Water Safety Team Visit to St Fintan’s National School, Sutton.

 

April 20th. Person stuck in mud Baldoyle. Full Team Tasked along with CG Rescue 116. Person assisted to shoreline. Incident 24/15.

Advanced Powerboat Assessment - Trainee Coxswains.

The Howth Prawn Festival takes place this weekend in Howth. The Coast Guard station is open to visitors on Saturday and Sunday from 12-5 each day. Come along and say hello to the crew on station, check out the rescue equipment and see what the job of being a volunteer member of the Coast Guard entails.

Monday 6th April

17:00 CG boat towed a broken down craft back to shore.

20:00

The Coast Guard team were tasked to a helicopter landing at Beaumont. Rescue 116 were routing from Cavan. The pitch was cleared of debris, a smoke flare deployed and the team assisted R116 with the transfer of the casualty.

Dublin Fire Brigade were tasked to provide fire cover and a HSE ambulance transferred the patient to A&E. Stood down at 21:30

The team along with Howth Lifeboat were tasked to assist Gardai including their Air Support unit with a search for a person on Portmarnock Beach.

Following an extensive search the team were stood down at 12:30am, nothing to report.

Royal Navy HMS Charger Visit to Howth

On Saturday we had the pleasure of hosting the crew from HMS Charger to the station who were visiting Howth.

Based out of Liverpool the crew dropped into see the station and understand the role the Irish Coast Guard play in Search and Rescue in Ireland. The Howth team were then invited aboard the HMS Charger where they got to see the workings of the Royal Navy.

We wish the crew well on their onward journey.

Person in Water Howth Harbour

At 10pm last night (Saturday) the Irish Coast Guard emergency operations centre received a call from Gardai concerning a person in the water in Howth Harbour.

The Irish Coast Guard team from Howth and Howth RNLI Lifeboat were tasked. A Garda unit was already on scene with a male who climbed down rocks and was waist deep in water. A Coast Guard unit arrived on the scene quickly and assisted Gardai with getting the man safely back to the shoreline.

The man was then taken by ambulance to hospital with minor injuries.

Following the incident the team were then tasked to a missing person in the Howth area, following a one hour search the incident was resolved by Gardai.

Helicopter Landing R115

Yesterday evening while the team were preparing for Cliff Training at 19.00 a tasking was received from the NMOC to assist CG helicopter Rescue 115 en route from Galway with a landing at Beaumont hospital.

A unit was dispatched from Howth while the rest of team continued their training. The team arrived and prepared the landing site, they were then stood down after 15 minutes as the routing for the helicopter was changed due to low light conditions.

    Our team of 25 volunteers based at Howth Harbour provide 24/7 on-call coverage and have specialised training to respond to local coastal emergencies in their own locality.
