Missing Person Search

Last night (Friday) just after 7pm the Irish Coast  Guard were informed by several witnesses of a person entering the water at Balscaden Beach and not returning.

The Irish Coast Guard unit from Howth, Coast Guard Helicopter Rescue 116 and Howth RNLI Inshore lifeboat were tasked immediately. Teams searched the area thoroughly, with conditions on scene deteriorating the search was called off until the morning.

At 5.30am this morning (Saturday) at low water the search recommenced with the RNLI inshore lifeboat on the water and Irish Coast Guard team from Howth doing a shore line search. The search is still ongoing during the day with Coast Guard Patrols covering the area concerned, Garda Divers have also joined the search.

Pollution Check Clontarf

Howth Coast Guard unit was tasked this morning at 11.11 by the Coast Guard NMOC to investigate a report of fuel on the water at Clontarf. A team from the unit went to the area but report no visual signs of pollution. A further check was carried out by CG helicopter R116 as it was returning from a previous tasking and it had nothing to report. The NMOC was informed and the team was stood down at 11.57.

Missing Person Search

Shortly after 10pm last night the Irish Coast Guard were requested to assist Gardai with a search in Howth. The Irish Coast Guard unit from Howth were tasked along with Howth Lifeboat ALB and ILB; they joined the Garda Air Support unit and local Gardai in searching the area. 

Close to midnight one of the Coast Guard search teams located a body, the body was recovered by the RNLI Inshore Lifeboat to their boathouse. A paramedic from the Coast Guard along with Dublin Fire Brigade paramedics attended, sadly the person had passed away. Rest in Peace.

Small Boat Needing Assistance

At 16.38 yesterday Howth Coast Guard were requested to investigate a report of a small boat with one person on board in need of assistance off the West pier in Howth. As a Howth volunteer arrived a local rib had arrived at the boat established a tow and had started to bring it in to the harbour. No further assistance required.
