Coast Guard helicopter Rescue 116, Howth Coast Guard, Dun Laoghaire Lifeboat and Gardai were tasked to attend.

Rescue teams arrived and located a person in the water requiring assistance. Coast Guard Helicopter Rescue 116 lowered their winchman into the water and they successfully winched the casualty aboard and the helicopter proceeded to Beaumont Hospital.

Howth Coast Guard were then tasked to assist with the landing site at Beaumont. With the assistance of Gardai members Howth CG volunteers routed from Dollymount to Beaumont and assisted with the transfer of the casualty to Beaumont A&E. The cooperation of local Gardai, Dun Laoghaire RNLI and the Coast Guard led to quick recovery from the water and transfer of the casualty to hospital.

At 6pm last night the Irish Coast Guard emergency operations centre received a 999 call from a member of the public. They were reporting a Kite Surfer in difficulty off Dollymount Beach, the caller had lost any sighting of him and was concerned for his safety with darkness due within the hour.

Coast Guard Rescue helicopter Rescue 116 along with Howth Coast Guard, Howth Lifeboat and Gardai were tasked immediately.

Rescue teams were quickly on the scene searching an area from Sutton to the Wooden Bridge in Dollymount.  A search team from Rescue 116 and Howth Coast Guard located the casualty who had made it safely ashore. The casualty's gear had failed while kite surfing forcing the surfer who was a strong swimmer to do a long swim back to shore.  No medical assistance was required and all teams stood down.

Some advice Kite Surfers have shared

1. Know your limits

2. Know your gear

3. Be a strong swimmer

4. Stay calm

5. Watch each other and if in doubt call for help. That reinforces and implies "Never kite alone".

Thankfully a good result and the incident shows the importance of contacting the Coast Guard immediately on 112/999 if you are concerned for someone on the water/ cliff/ beach. Your call could save a life.

On Sunday 12th at 4am the Coast Guard 999 operations centre received a call reporting someone in the water between the Baily Lighthouse and Sutton. Howth Coast Guard and Howth Lifeboat were tasked. As the team were mobilising the call was discovered to be a hoax call. All assets were stood down. Hoax calls put an unnecessary risk on both Coast Guard and RNLI crews. Gardai are investigating.

On Sunday 12th at 5pm the Coast Guard team were tasked to a Helicopter landing at Beaumont. The casualty had faller earlier at Bray Head and was attended to by our colleagues in Greystones CG and Coast Guard Rescue 116. R116 landed and the team assisted with the transfer to a waiting ambulance.
