As part of an ongoing search involving the RNLI and Coast Guard of Howth Head from 03:00 that morning CG Rescue 116 located a person on the cliffs near the shore line that evening. A Coast Guard Paramedic winchman was lowered down and quickly established that the person needed evacuation to hospital. Due to the location of the casualty the winchman requested further assistance. Two members of the Coast Guard from Howth were winched down by Rescue 116 to the casualty to assist.

The team provided immediate medical care and moved the casualty into a stretcher for evacuation. An Advanced Paramedic from the National Ambulance Service (NAS) was also winched down to provide advanced life support. A decision was made to transport the patient to Beaumont Hospital and a Coast Guard crew from Howth were sent to prepare a landing site along with NAS to provide transport. Rescue 116 winched the casualty along with the NAS AP and CG winchman aboard. The RNLI D Class from Howth recovered the two remaining Coast Guard personnel from Howth and did so with great skill and boatmanship.
