Steep Ground Stretcher Training

BALSCADDEN QUARRY, HOWTH - Howth Coast Guard undertook 3 hours of team training tonight at Balscadden Quarry. The unit was split into medical and evacuation crews, focusing on the successful location and steep ground lower-off of a casualty suffering serious injuries.

Injured Teenager Recovered At Balscadden

BALSCADDEN QUARRY, HOWTH - The 28 Irish Coast Guard volunteers stationed in Howth unit were paged by the Marine Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC Dublin) at 0900hrs this morning at the request of An Garda S­iochana.

Helicopter Wet Winch Training

EAST OF IRELAND’S EYE, DUBLIN - This morning, Howth Coast Guard Boat provided two wet winching casualties for the Dublin based SAR Helicopter on exercise. Casualties were lifted from the sea by a winchman before being lowered back into place.

In 2008 the Coast Guard responded to a total of 1876 incidents, which represents a 4% decrease from 2007. Car in need of assistance and Flare call

Howth were tasked today at 13.00 on request of Dublin MRCC to a car in need of assistance on Dollymount beach. It was caught in the sand on a rising tide. Three volunteers responded to the scene and removed the car and it’s occupants to safety.
