At 16.42 while out on patrol yesterday at the back of Ireland’s Eye the crew of Howth Coast Guard boat ‘Grainne’ responded to a channel 16 call to Dublin MRCC that a jetski had overturned in Howth sound and 2 kids and an adult were in the water. Grainne was on the scene in 30 seconds. A yacht picked up the two kids and confirmed that they were ok but were cold as they were only wearing their normal clothes. The adult was still in the water and needed assistance. Grainne went to help the adult, confirmed he was ok and got him into the boat. They then attached the jetski to the towline and proceeded to pickup three more kids from the party who were on the beach on Ireland’s Eye. Grainne then brought all back to Howth harbour. The yacht dropped the kids it recovered back to the marina in the harbour. All recovered were ok and did not require any further medical treatment.
Lifejackets were worn by all and this undoubtedly gave the casualties time in order for the yacht and Grainne to get on scene and effect a rescue.
