At 0300hrs this morning, Howth Coast Guard were tasked by Dublin Coast Guard Marine Rescue Co-ordination centre. HM Coastguard based in Liverpool was concerned about the fate of a vessel. It left Liverpool bound for Dublin, was overdue and had not reported in to it’s shore contact. Liverpool Coastguard had been broadcasting messages looking for it on VHF. They contacted the Irish Coast Guard in Dublin and asked for assistance before they initiated a full scale sea search.
Dublin considered it may be in Howth and contacted the volunteer on call, who proceeded to Howth Harbour to begin the search of vessels. The vessel was located moored to the middle pier of Howth Harbour and all the crew in their bunks. Major crisis adverted!
Safety Note: Please remember to tell your shore contact of your safe arrival at your destination and consider lodging a free TR (Traffic report) with your local CG radio station. Safe boating.
