Howth CG were tasked at 2314 tonight to go to the assistance of a motorist who had got into difficulty on Dollymount beach. The CG were tasked as the initial call suggested that a person was trapped by the incoming tide and that life may be in danger. On arriving on scene the CG unit established that it was only a car that was stuck and that the motorist concerned had managed to free themselves with the help of some bystanders. Gardai from Clontarf were also in attendance. Howth were stood down at 2345

why was dun laoghaire lifeboat not called out for that shout , i thought that is there patch ???

Yes Dollymount is usually covered by DL LB. Deployment of rescources is determined by Dublin MRCC. Probaby weren´t tasked as call quicky realised as non life treatening so the unit were asked to double check. The unit respond anyway with drysuits and PFD´s and lifelines and glassbreaking hammers in case we have to enter the water to a car. We get a half a dozen calls to cars a year on Dollymount, as do Dublin FB. Although with the new car parking areas it probably won´t be as much now. Even if it´s non life treatening we get called alot to double check calls as we tend to be the eyes and ears of MRCC. Usually Rescue 116 would be put on standby also to provide overhead cover as well.
