On Saturday at 1100, while working with Coast Guard helicopter ‘Mike Echo Sierra’ on a winching exercise, Howth Coast Guard boat ‘Grainne‘ received a call from Dublin MRCC to go to investigate a call received that a 22′ boat was at sea near Malahide estuary and seemed to be unprepared for approaching gale conditions. Grainne went to the scene, found the boat and spoke to the occupants about the approaching bad weather. All on board had PFDs but Grainne’s crew considered that the boat was not suitable for rough open sea. A request was made for it to return to Malahide and seek safe harbour.
