Last night Howth Coast Guard were paid a visit by ‘D’ watch of Kilbarrack Fire Station in a continuation of the joint education scheme we are running with the local fire service. The District Officer covering the North Strand and Kilbarrack stations was also in attendance. Over the next few months all the watches from Kilbarrack and the Emergency Tender crews from Phibsboro will be visiting the CG station to see the capabilities of the Volunteers in Howth.

After the visit the CG crew headed to Balscadden on exercise to perform a walking casualty recovery of a man stranded at the bottom of the cliffs. This was undertaken in the fading light of the evening on a slope and with reduced area to work in. The casualty was recovered to the top safely in the required time. As the team become more experienced the exercise tasks are now becoming more difficult to complete.
