Howth Coast Guard were tasked today at 1615 to search for a missing person. Belongings of the person in a bag were found at Balscadden beach at 1300 and handed into the Gardai at Howth. After investigating the bag and tracing who owned it the Gardai became concerned for the persons welfare. They had not however received a missing persons report before the bag was found. Howth CG unit responded to the Gardai call for assistance and searched the area from the East pier to the Nose of Howth. Coast Guard Helicopter Rescue 116 was also tasked to the scene by Dublin MRCC and carried out a search.
Nothing was found and if Gardai fail to make contact with the person overnight a further search will be carried out tomorrow. The Howth volunteers were stood down at 19.00

Update 06/09/07. A further search was carried out today with nothing found. The Gardai are continuing to look for this person but believe they may not now be in the Howth area.
