On Saturday the 25th of August Howth Coast Guard boat ‘Grainne’ was tasked to three separate incidents while out on routine patrol.

The first call was to a sinking yacht on the North side of Ireland’s Eye. Grainne was in Dublin bay at the time. When she arrived the crew had just been taken off safely but the yacht had sunk. Check here for details of the incident and the yachts recovery.
The second call was to a report of an overloaded boat out in open water on the North East side of Ireland’s Eye. Grainne and her crew arrived on scene and found a very small inflatable with three people on board. They all had PFDs on. They were spoken to on safety issues and returned to harbour.

While preparing to finish up for the day Dublin MRCC called with a report that a member of the public had seen an upturned boat off the East side of Howth. Grainne searched the area for one hour but nothing was found. They suspected the person had maybe seen a buoy or small boat which was not in trouble. Considered call with good intent.
Grainne finished her day at 19.00 after being on the water for six hours.
Incidents 37/07, 38/07, 39/07.
