The Howth Festival was on last weekend and the unit are still recovering from what was a busy two days. On Saturday the station was open to the public and a large amount of visitors came to view the station and meet the team. Howth CG had all of their equipment and vehicles on show in the station along with the boat.

On Sunday the station was open in the morning and at 13.00 a cliff rescue demonstration was held on the East pier. A large crowd gathered to watch the team set up a cliff top recovery and then rescue a ‘casualty’ from the rocks to the safety. Many stayed to chat to the team after the demo and learn a little more about the CG and the team in Howth.

At 16.00 and in co-operation with the Civil Defence, Greystones Coast Guard unit from which three members came up with their boat, the Coast Guard helicopter ‘Mike Echo Sierra’, and the Yacht ‘Raffles’ from the Howth Sailing and Boating Club, a Search and Rescue Demo was held in Howth sound off the East pier. To a large crowd a series of simulated rescues was performed while full commentary was given on the PA system. The rain held off(just for a while) to make it a very successfull event.

Thanks to the Howth Unit volunteers who gave up their free time to be at the station and to all who assisted in making the weekend a great success and to the Howth Sailing and Boating Club for the use of the starting hut for the demo on Sunday.
