As part of regular training, Howth CG unit received their helicopter familarisation session tonight. Coast Guard Rescue helicopter ‘mike echo sierra’ landed at the Baily lighthouse pad to facilitate the session. It’s important that the boat and shore crews working with the helicopter on incidents know the safety precautions to take while working around it. The helicopter crew took the team around the aircraft pointing out and showing all the equipment it has on board. Landing and clearing a site, taking off, casualty handling in the aircraft, winching procedures and approaching and leaving the aircraft safely were just some of the topics discussed.
Thanks to the helicopter crew for running the session with us.
