coastguard rescue 019.jpg

Last night at midnight Howth Coast Guard were tasked by MRCC Dublin following a report that a car was seen driving from the summit carpark towards the cliffs. The Gardai were alerted and requested assistance in trying to locate the car. The Garda helicopter was at the scene but had to leave as it was running low on fuel. Howth Coast Guard assembled 3 teams to search an area from the Baily lighthouse to Cassana rock. Meanwhile Howth lifeboat searched the shoreline while the Coast Guard helicopter, Rescue 116, was scrambled. On arrival at the scene the helicopter searched the area with searchlight and infra red camera but could find nothing. The search teams could find no evidence that the car had left the upper cliff path nor the lifeboat any evidence that it had entered the water. The search was called off and the teams stood down at 0215.

Weather conditions were good.
