Howth CG were tasked tonight at 18.15 to investigate reports of a grounded yacht at the mouth of the Malahide estuary. MRCC Dublin could not raise it on the vhf radio and so needed to check for all ok. One member from the unit living near the scene proceeded and got visual contact with the yacht. It is grounded at the entrance to the estuary but with a rising tide the crew on board are comfortable and are waiting it out. Howth were stood down at 18.45.

That was quick after the VHF course!

Greetings from the Southern Hemisphere. I have been surfing the web initially looking for a photo of an abandoned yacht, and after no joy, changed the search criteria to ‘grounded yacht,’ happening upon your website in the process. Quite a cool logo the Irish Coast Guard have, but ’tis a great pity I cannot say the same for their NZ equivalent. I’ll keep on surfing for that magic photo, as I need it for an article I’m running.
