Howth CG boat Grainne was out on Sunday last monitoring Lifejacket Compliance. The crew reported back disappointedly that the level of compliance was dropping back on previous levels. Specific incidents included a rib out from Howth with five people on board but only one with a PFD and a rib with one adult and one child on board but the child was only wearing an adult ‘aircraft style’ jacket which is totally unsuitable.
Howth Coast Guard would again like to remind owners and masters of vessels of their lifejacket obligations under the Merchant Shipping (pleasure craft) (lifejackets and operation) (safety) Regulations, 2004. S.I. No 259 of 2004. Lifejackets must be worn by all on board vessels up to 7m in length.
