Coast Guard involved in rescue drama
HOWTH Lifeboat, Dublin Fire Brigade and Howth Coast Guard were involved in a dramatic cliff rescue at Balscadden Bay, Howth, last week. Two members of the public fell from cliffs just under Balscadden car park on Thursday, July 13. It is understood they may have been fishing for mackerel from the cliffs at the time.
The alarm was raised at 5.30pm. Howth Inshore Lifeboat, several fire units and a Coast Guard unit were dispatched to the scene.
The lifeboat positioned two of their members at the bottom of the cliff face, while a member of the Coast Guard unit descended from the cliff top on safety ropes.The first casualty was placed on a stretcher by lifeboat crew and taken to Howth Harbour where he was transferred to Beaumont Hospital by ambulance.
The second casualty was guided to the safety of the cliff top by fire brigade members and Coast Guard personnel.
The first casualty was described as being “comfortable†in hospital while the second was discharged with minor injuries.
