The team were paged at 1510hrs today to assist a woman on ‘Jamesons Beach’ on Howth Head. Arriving with a very quick response, members of the Coast Guard team discovered the woman had fallen 5-6m over the cliff edge off the steep steps descending to the beach.
Coordinating with ‘Rescue Helicopter 116′, the team evacuated the woman as a suspected spinal injury to an ambulance at the Airport. Many thanks to Howth Gardai & the Dublin Helicopter Crew for a successful joint effort.
Howth Coast Guard would like to remind everyone to wear appropriate footwear and to be careful while on the cliff paths leading to the lower beaches in this period of sunny weather.
2300hrs Update:. Woman comfortable in hospital. No serious injuries.
1000hrs 18/7/06 Update: Helicopter crew congratulate team on a professional job.

Dear Coastguard,
This woman is a friend and colleague. She had a nasty fall witnessed by her three children. Subsequent to her accident, she could not praise you and your team enough. She said you were efficient, caring, extremely effective, professional and kind. Your primary concern was for her feared spinal injury and you treated her with the utmost consideration.
Well done and thank you. We are lucky to have you.

Thank you for your speedy response to my fall and for the professional and reassuring way you treated me. I am very greatful to you. I spent two days in Beaumont Hospital and was discharged having suffered a fractured elbow and other injuries. Evacuating me as a spinal casualty minimised damage to my back which I feared I had seriously hurt.
With sincere gratitude
Fiona
