Following the report of a blood stained towel spotted at the Baily Lighthouse by two joggers the Howth unit 4×4 jeep went to investigate the location. On discovery of the towel a decision was made to report it to the Gardai as suspicious. With unknown origins and after examining the found material the Gardai requested assistance in a search of the nearby cliff area at 2016hrs for any further objects or sign of an accident.

A search is currently ongoing until darkness tonight with the Rescue 116 Helicopter infra-red camera, and three search teams on foot covering from Lion’s Head to the summit car park. The Howth ATV Quad and Gear Van are also on scene.

An update on the out-come of the search will be posted tomorrow.

Conditions: Heavy Rain Showers, Temp 10.6c, Low light fading to darkness.
