Friday morning at 0100hrs the Howth unit were tasked to investigate a report of a car being driven into the water off the west pier, Howth Harbour. Along with Howth Lifeboat All Weather & Inshore, Rescue 116 Helicopter & Howth Gardai the location was identified, marked and flood-lit. Howth CG unit searched the trawler berths and alongside the pier walls for occupants of the vehicle.

The Gardai Water unit was requested, and travelled from Mullingar arriving shortly after 0300hrs. A body was recovered from the vehicle by  two Garda divers with assistance from Howth ILB before the car was lifted clear of the water and removed from the scene. The rescue teams stood down circa 0410hrs.
